We pull up carpet, padding, tack strip and laminate, roll it, and haul it out. A single room is typically our one-eighth load; a full first floor usually lands between the three-eighths and half-truck tiers. There is no disposal surcharge on flooring. We sweep the subfloor before we leave so the room is ready for whatever comes next.

Carpet gets cut into manageable strips and rolled rather than dragged through the house in one piece. Tack strip and staples come up with it — that is the part people underestimate.
Carpet and padding go to a permitted transfer station. Clean wood flooring is separated for recycling where the facility accepts it.
